Methods for vibration diagnostics of axle box bearings of locomotive wheel sets were actively introduced by BALTECH employees in the late 1990s. Our specialist developed different approaches providing reliability of wheel and motor as well as wheel and gearbox units of traction equipment.
Diagnostics of Diesel-powered and electric locomotives is complicated, because wear of axle box (roller) and axial bearings differs during operation of traction equipment due to a different load, as in one locomotive changing interval a locomotive can move in different directions and different time.
For diagnostics a locomotive is jacked up in a locomotive facility, and the load on wheel and motor and wheel and gearbox units becomes opposite in relation to the load in operation conditions.
Within methods for vibration diagnostics of wheel sets developed by the company BALTECH at that time it was recommended to increase wheel rotation speed by over 120 rpm in order not to avoid cracks on the top of outer rings of axle roller bearings. For bore alignment of traction equipment we have developed the laser system BALTECH LL-9110. For temperature control of electric motors of wheel and motor as well as wheel and gearbox units and also for diagnostics of contractors, pantographs and electric units of electric locomotives as well as for control of cooling units we recommend using thermal imaging cameras BALTECH TR-01500. For balancing and vibration diagnostics of wheel sets we have developed a new diagnostic system BALTECH VP-3470.

2) Detector - RMS, Peak, Peak-Peak, Peak- factor, excess
3) Number of averages - 1-100
4) Vibration measurement bands, Hz - Per ISO: 2...200Hz, 2...1000Hz, 10...1000Hz, 10...2000Hz, Additional: 10...10000 Hz.
