Rolling element bearings are the most used elements in any rotor (dynamic) equipment, that’s why their condition is always of a great importance. E.g. for express oil diagnostic we recommend using the low-cost minilaboratory BALTECH OA-5000.
Defects of rolling element bearings are sometimes hard to detect, as they can be considered as defects of one or more improper bearing contact surfaces. These defects are almost invisible even under the microscope. The problem can be more complicated than actually the defect. Very often improper bearings or lubricants are used, or a bearing is loaded in a false way.
These are the main reasons for failures of rolling element bearings:
• 40% - Improper lubrication (plenty or lack of a lubricant). Solution of the problem is the minilaboratory BALTECH OA.
• 20% - Improper mounting (with a hammer, through welding etc.). Solutions of the problem are induction heaters BALTECH HI-1630 series and the tool BALTECH TOOLS.
• 20% - Other reasons (e.g. wrong application, manufacturing defects, increased vibration before and after bearing installation). Solution of the problems is bearing condition monitoring with stands BALTECH BCM-6155.
• 11% - Increased misalignment. For solution of the problem you can use alignment systems BALTECH SA-4300 series.
• 9% - Standard life of equipment. This problem can be solved by permanent using and vibration diagnostics of rolling element bearings with the vibrometer-balancers BALTECH VP-3470 series.
• According to the statistics up to 30% premature bearing failures happen due to unbalance and misalignment. For solution of the problem you can use balancing machines BALTECH BCM series and the balancing device BALTECH VP-3470 with the software BALTECH Balance.
• According to various sources about 10% of all bearings are defective before their mounting. Solution of the problem is training on the course IORS-2020 «Reliability of bearings and mounting and operation rules for rolling element bearings».
